Clinical Massage

Many scholars suggest that the Western massage therapy we know today was originally brought to Europeans from China many hundreds of years ago.  The techniques commonly thought of as Swedish massage can be found in ancient medical documents from Asia.  Healing through touch is a fundamental aspect of our humanity, we are fortunate today to have many teachers, methods and access to knowledge about healing from all over the world.  In addition, Western Scientific studies have shown that Massage is helpful in healing many conditions and reducing the effects of stress in the body.

Clinical massage focuses on overall wellness as opposed to simply relaxation.  A “day at the spa relaxation massage” is essential for us all, however sometimes a more systematic approach is necessary to relieve pain and improve wellbeing – this is where Clinical Massage becomes appropriate.

What to expect:

Your first session will begin with an intake form and conversation, this will give your therapist an idea of your history and what is currently an issue for you.  You will be provided with privacy while you position yourself on the treatment table and can disrobe to your level of comfort, bring along shorts or comfortable clothing if you prefer not to disrobe. Your session will be relaxing and will address issues of immediate concern as well as set the pace for follow-up treatments which will help to align your posture and improve your overall health.

How can Clinical Massage help?

Clinical massage can help to reduce the negative effects of stress, heal from injuries, decrease pain and inflammation, eliminate headaches, improve sleep quality and duration, decrease the discomfort of fibromyalgia, improve overall mood and sense of wellbeing, decrease anxiety and panic attacks, improve function of jaw from TMJ disorders, return to balance after surgery and dental work, improve digestion and elimination,  deepen the breath, release the joints and ground during transition times.
